Lavishly Loving

Love Knows No Economy
13

“Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and being alone won't either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel.”

― Louise Erdrich, The Painted Drum

Here’s to the beauty of wasting one’s heart lavishly… 🩷

Lavishly Loving

I wanted
to gift my heart to you,
to waste it on you
lavishly.
I wanted to pour
my heart in you–
like ripe red grapes
yield their wine,
intoxicating and free.

Oh, Sweet Love,
I wanted to waste
all my sweetness on you
just like ‘the apple trees
waste their sweetness
falling in heaps around you’

Darling,
sit by me.
And I would
let you taste
as much
of my sweet love
as you wish.

Darling,
I am wasting my love on you
in full heaps
just like the apple trees
waste their sweetness.

With my sweetness
I soften each
dis-ease within you
so that you
can for-give
life’s harsh hands.

Sweet love,
let me dance for you
like the leaves on the trees
swaying in rhythm
with the wind

Oh Sweet One,
my love flows to you
relentlessly–
like ‘the streams
and rivers that never rest’.

Ich möchte gerne
mein Herz
an dich verschenken
ich möchte es
an dich verschwenden
in der Wahrheit des Lichts
und der Ewigkeit der Nacht
möchte ich
mein Herz
an dich verschenken

Sweet Darling,
let me give it all away–
pouring my love over you
as I learned it from the Niagara Falls
rushing down
to kiss your skin

Honey,
let me bathe you
in silent presence,
where all of your heart
is being heard at once.

My Beloved
Loved One!

“Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and being alone won't either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You have to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes too near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself that you tasted as many as you could.”

― Louise Erdrich, The Painted Drum

“A mountain watches over a landscape and lures its mind towards the horizon. Streams and rivers never rest; they are relentless nomads who claim neither shape nor place. Stones and field in habit a Zen-like stillness and seem immune to all desire. Nature is always wrapped in seamless prayer.”

― John O Donohue, Eternal Echoes

Love, in its purest form, knows no econocmy; it overflows like reivers that never rest, like trees that give freely.

As you leave these verses…

  • … may you carry with you the remidner that sweetness shared is never truly wasted.

  • … may your heart pour out in generous abunduance

Love 🩷
